La Anunciación y Lily crucifixion del Llanbeblig Book of Hours (fols. 1v-2r) es un caso poco frecuente en el terreno de la miniatura [1] pero son numerosos en otros medios en el arte insular de los siglos XIV-XVI, los cuales suelen relacionarse con la creencia medieval británica de que la crucifixión habría tenido lugar un 25 de marzo, el mismo día que la Anunciación. Dicha creencia está atestiguada en varias referencias, siendo quizá la más clara la del poema de John DONNE, Upon the Annuntiation and Passion Falling upon one day (1608):

‘At once a Sonne is promis’d her, and gone,
Gabriell gives Christ to her, He her to John;
Not fully a mother, Shee’s in Orbitie,
At once receiver and the legacie.
All this, and all betweene, this day hath showne,
Th’Abridgement of Christs story, which makes one
(As in plaine Maps, the furthest West is East)
Of the Angels’s Ave,’ and Consummatum est...’.

El Libro tiene en el calendario y santoral elementos que lo relacionan con la zona de Caernarfon, y su primera propietaria fue probablemente Isabella Godynogh (fallecida en 1413).
