Tratado sobre los pecados de Robert Mannyng of Brunne (ca. 1303) que recoge (vv. 9263 ss.) el exemplum de J. de Vitry como ejemplo del pecado del sacrilegio. Se conserva en nueve manuscritos. Dos completos en el British Museum y la Bodleian Library (el verso que dice shryfte of mouth aparece solo en el MS Bodley 415).

La historia es la de Vitry con el demonio que escribe en un pergamino los chismes de los fieles y lo estira para que quepan más en él, pero sin mencionar su nombre, y la fuente deben de ser directamente los Sermones vulgares (o sus derivados), ya que el relato que Furnivall titula "The Tale of the Devil's a Disappointment with the Jangling Women", no aparece en el Manuel des Pechiez anglonormando de William de Wadington (1270 ca.), del cual el Handlyng Synne es en realidad una traducción y adaptación [1].
