Recopilación de sermones obra del canónigo agustino John Mirk de Lilleshall Abbey. Conservada en numerosos manuscritos, la denominada versión B la imprimió completa William Caxton en su Doctrinal of sapience (Londres, 1483). En el sermón nº 68: De dedicatione Ecclesie. Sermo brevis, se recoge la historia del demonio, sin nombre, recopilador de chismes femeninos en la Misa, especialmente cuando éstos se producen en el momento de recitar el Padrenuestro.

El demonio se describe situado sobre los hombros (schuldyrs) de las mujeres (nekkys en el MS Cotton Claudius), y de ese modo aparece representado en la pintura y en las misericordias de las sillerías de coro (cf.
